Islesboro Crossing

We've set the date for IX2018! Join us August 11 and 12, 2018 for the sixth annual Islesboro Crossing. Take note that the swim will occur on a Sunday next year with the athlete dinner and safety meeting scheduled for Saturday evening. Detailed information for the 2018 event will go live in January.

Registration for 2017 participants opens February 1, 2018 and general registration opens February 15, 2018.

The Islesboro Crossing attracts swimmers across the country to raise funds for LifeFlight of Maine, a nonprofit organization and the state's only emergency medical helicopter service. Whether you're swimming, paddling, or volunteering, this fundraiser will challenge and inspire you. Because when you cross the bay, you're helping LifeFlight bring the hospital to the patient--whether it's across the bay or across the state of Maine.

The 5k ocean swim across the West Penobscot Bay channel offers a heartwarming spirit, inspiring stories, and a hero's welcome on Islesboro, including a flyover salute from the LifeFlight helicopter.

Why We're Crossing

Swimmers, paddlers and volunteers join forces each year to raise funds for Maine's only emergency medical helicopter service. In 2017, 128 swimmers, 128 paddlers and scores of volunteers crossed the bay and raised over $250,000 for LifeFlight! These funds will support the purchase of two new helicopters to replace the two that have served the people of Maine so well for 14 years.
