Islesboro Crossing

Thank you for being part of IX2019!

What a day! Sunday, August 18 may have dawned dreary and foggy, but by the time the last swimmer emerged from the water to a warm Islesboro welcome, one thing was clear: nowhere else is there a group of people more dedicated, committed and generous. There was so much love and warmth radiating from the island that it could have burned a hole through the cloud cover Mother Nature had in store for us that morning.

A record 144 swimmers, together with their paddlers and nearly 100 volunteers, undaunted by low visibility and rain, helped raise an incredible $400,000 for LifeFlight!

Everyone here at LifeFlight is brimming with appreciation. The feeling of community and camaraderie that is woven through every aspect of this event leaves us speechless. We’re incredibly grateful for all of our swimmers and paddlers for your willingness to participate and for sharing LifeFlight’s mission with the thousands of people who, because of you, have become inspired to support it.

The money raised at IX2019 will help LifeFlight purchase new helicopters to replace our two oldest models, Echo Mike and Charlie Mike, which can’t be re-engineered to take care of the next generation of Mainers. Over the last 7 years, swimmers, paddlers, volunteers and sponsors have raised nearly $1.5 million to support LifeFlight -- support that has helped thousands of critically ill and injured people in Maine get the care they needed when it mattered most. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!

And the fundraising isn't over... if you'd like to support the event and keep pushing that total even higher, click the green donate button today!

With a heartwarming spirit, inspiring stories and a hero's welcome on Islesboro, it's easy to understand why this event has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception in 2013.

Watch for registration details for IX2020 in January!

Why We're Crossing

Swimmers, paddlers and volunteers join forces each year to raise funds for Maine's only emergency medical helicopter service. An open water swim across Penobscot Bay, the Islesboro Crossing attracts swimmers from across the country to raise funds for LifeFlight of Maine, a nonprofit organization. Whether you're swimming, paddling, volunteering, sponsoring or donating, this fundraiser will challenge and inspire you.

At LifeFlight, we believe that everyone in Maine has the right to lifesaving critical care, and we know that every minute counts.  With more than one million people spread across a vast state, providing critical care transport is an expensive proposition. When we all work together, however, we can bridge the miles to save lives. You have helped us to bridge the miles!

Because of your work and dedication, we’ve moved even closer to our goal of purchasing two new helicopters to replace our oldest models, Echo Mike and Charlie Mike. That means you are helping even more people in Maine (residents and visitors alike) get the critical care and transport they need, when they need it.
