In 2020 participants completed their crossings all across Maine (not to mention Lake Michigan, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Illinois, Delaware, Florida and other locations). To view the event and all the crossings, visit the event tracking website:

Remote Crossings Continue in 2021

Let's get excited!

Although we have begun to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccine roll out, we will face many unknowns before it’s over. As a frontline organization, LifeFlight sees the effects of and the continuing risks posed by the pandemic every day.  For these reasons, the planning team has decided to build on the success of iX2020 and hold a reimagined, remote event again in 2021. Although we won't be hosting an in-person event this year,  we are hopeful and optimistic that we will have an opportunity to gather once again as a community with our friends and supporters on Islesboro in 2022.

What's new for iX2021?

We’ll be expanding on what we started in 2020 with hundreds of individual and team crossings taking place across Maine and beyond. Through our digital and social platforms we will stay connected and build a community of crossers—swimmers, paddlers, bikers, hikers, runners, rowers, sailors and more—who all have one thing in common: support and love for LifeFlight.

We are expanding the time frame of the event, you will have the entire month of August to complete your crossings. We’ll be offering improved fundraising tools and ideas, and we’re hard at work upgrading the infamous crossing tracker to make it easier to use. In spite of what the pandemic might throw our way, it promises to be an exciting August!

Why We're Crossing

The act of crossing has significant importance to LifeFlight. It represents traveling across the state of Maine to provide critical care to those who need it.  These critically ill and injured patients are in our local community hospitals, in Maine’s forests and on Maine’s lakes, coast and islands.

At LifeFlight, we believe that everyone in Maine has the right to lifesaving critical care, and we know that every minute counts.  With more than one million people spread across a vast state, providing critical care transport is an expensive proposition. When we all work together, however, we can bridge the miles to save lives.

The crossing has become LifeFlight’s largest annual fundraiser and we are so grateful for the participants who complete their crossing to support lifesaving care. At the end of 2020, a brand new, state-of-the-art helicopter arrived in Maine and started taking care of patients. N901LF (Lima Foxtrot) has been crisscrossing the state, connecting patients to the critical care they need thanks to our Crossers! Participants in this event have also helped to purchase specialized medical equipment designed specifically to take care of seriously ill patients in the transport environment and have enabled LifeFlight to provide advanced clinical training and education to emergency medical providers across the state. All of that means you're helping even more people in Maine (residents and visitors alike) get the critical care and transport they need, when they need it.
